How to Plan a Kids’ Party: Birthdays, Baby Showers and Christenings

A great children’s party starts with the guest of honor, not the theme, and should be planned so both kids and adults enjoy it. Mariana Degener Events designs and coordinates birthdays, baby showers and christenings in Barcelona, so you can relax and enjoy your celebration.

How to Create a Children’s Party with Personality: Birthdays, Baby Showers and Private Celebrations

Organizing a children’s party seems simple until you start thinking about everything it involves.

The space. The decorations. The food. The entertainment. The guests. The cake. And above all, making sure the kids have fun while the adults enjoy themselves too.

But for me, a great celebration starts long before choosing a theme.

A party shouldn’t just be a theme

Princesses, animals, football, circus, superheroes… Themes can be a great source of inspiration, but they shouldn’t be the starting point for the whole event.

The first step is to think about the guest of honor.

How old are they? What do they like? What’s their personality? How many children will there be? What kind of celebration does the family want?

From there, we can build a concept that makes sense.

A children’s party can be fun without being full of characters. It can be elegant without losing the fun. And it can have a theme without looking like a copy of Pinterest.

The difference lies in how the idea is developed.

Thinking about the kids… and the adults too

This is one of the biggest challenges of any children’s event.

Kids need space to play, move around and discover things. Adults want to be able to chat, eat and enjoy the celebration.

That’s why the layout of the space is just as important as the decorations.

An activity area, age-appropriate entertainment, a well-thought-out food offering and spaces where adults can be comfortable can completely change the experience.

The goal is for everyone to enjoy it.

Baby showers, christenings and other celebrations

Not all private events have to be for children.

We also organize baby showers, christenings, first communions, anniversaries and adult birthdays.

Each celebration needs its own language.

A baby shower can be intimate and delicate. A christening might call for a more elegant, family-oriented aesthetic. A birthday can become a real party.

There’s no single formula.

The details that make a celebration yours

What I love most about private events is exactly this: working with something that has a story behind it.

It could be the guest of honor’s favorite food, an activity they love, decorations inspired by a family trip, or simply a detail the guests didn’t expect.

You don’t need to fill an event with things to make it special.

You need to choose well.

Planning a celebration in Barcelona

Barcelona and its surroundings offer countless options for private events: restaurants, hotels, terraces, gardens, private homes, masías (traditional Catalan farmhouses) and unique venues.

The choice depends on the number of guests, the type of celebration and the experience we want to create.

And then there’s everything that happens behind the scenes: suppliers, setup, schedules, catering, entertainment and coordination.

Because the point of hiring an event planner isn’t just to have a beautiful party.

It’s to be able to enjoy it.

Create a celebration without having to handle everything

Organizing a birthday, baby shower or christening can quickly turn into a much bigger project than you imagined.

Finding suppliers, comparing quotes, coordinating schedules, designing the decor and overseeing the setup all take time. And on the day of the event, someone has to make sure everything runs smoothly.

That someone shouldn’t be you.

At Mariana Degener Events, we design and coordinate private celebrations in Barcelona and other destinations, from children’s birthdays and baby showers to christenings, anniversaries and family parties.

You have the occasion you want to celebrate.

We’ll turn it into a celebration you’ll remember.

If you have an idea in mind — even if you’re not quite sure how to make it happen yet — let’s talk.
